Marcus Rashford is said not to be keen on a move to Tottenham, amid claims Spurs are keeping a close eye on the England international. The north Londoners are one of four Premier League sides interested in Rashford, 28, with Barcelona yet to trigger their £26m option to sign him permanently as part of a loan deal. The Catalan giants reportedly have until mid-June to make a decision, after which the clause will expire.
Rashford will return to his parent club Manchester United after spending last season on loan in La Liga. That’s where clubs like Spurs could step in. According to the Mirror, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham have been kept informed of future developments, but Rashford is said to have no interest in joining either of the latter two clubs.
United are also reportedly reluctant to do business with domestic rivals. The reason they are so keen to waive his salary is because they want to permanently remove his £325,000-a-week salary from their books.
Spurs chief executive Vinay Venkatesham has indicated the club intends to invest more in wages than under his predecessor Daniel Levy. However, accommodating Rashford would mean a dramatic change from the pay structure they have established for many years.
Tottenham have been looking to sign a new winger since last summer, and interest in Savinho is expected to be reignited this summer. Both play primarily on the left, but Rashford would also provide a central option.
The Brazilian is clearly a long-term target, but Rashford could be an opportunistic signing to take advantage of Barcelona’s hesitation. Sabinho also appears to be the more economical choice as he is six-and-a-half years younger than Rashford.
Roberto De Zerbi spoke about his summer ambitions shortly after Spurs decided to keep him. “Starting tonight we have to organize ourselves and start building a new team,” he said.

“I don’t think we need to change too many players right now. We have 10, 11, 12 players who are good enough and the same, particularly desirable players, who are good enough to stay.
“And we have suffered too much, so we have to complete the team with first-level players, first-level players.
“I have suffered a lot but I think the fans, the club, the board and the players have suffered too much. We are Tottenham and we cannot suffer like this if we are to stay up until the last second of the last game.”
“And I’m going to get stronger, I’m going to get stronger. I don’t want to make decisions alone because football is a group of sports directors, scouts, CEOs, etc. But my goal now is that I’m done maintaining. My goal is to start preseason with the team of my dreams.”
