Manchester United’s transfer team are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to revamping their midfield. Having spent heavily on attacking options last summer, United want to do the same, but this time in the heart of the park.
The Red Devils are said to be open to bidding farewell to Casemiro at the end of the season and letting Manuel Ugarte go during the transfer window. As such, the Red Devils are in need of reinforcements in midfield and it is believed that the Red Devils have drawn up a shortlist of eight potential options.
According to The Sun, part of that list is long-term target Elliott Anderson, who is also attracting interest from United’s rivals Manchester City. The Blues are thought to be in pole position to sign a Nottingham Forest player who will represent England at the World Cup.
However, the list of midfield candidates does not end there, and also includes Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleva, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott, Aurélien Choameny, Joao Gomez and Matheus Fernandes. Both Gomez and Fernandes could be available at reduced prices, given that Wolves and West Ham were relegated from the Premier League this season.
The same cannot be said of Alex Scott, who had a fantastic season with Bournemouth and helped lead them to the Europa League. Similarly, Wharton has been in excellent form for Crystal Palace heading into the Conference League final and it is thought that a number of suitors are interested in the 22-year-old.
Tonali could leave Newcastle after a disappointing season, Baleva has interest from United and Choameni, who has recently been embroiled in a row with Real Madrid teammate Federico Valverde, could be shown the door.
The aforementioned target is likely to be in contention alongside Ederson, who is expected to make a long-awaited move from Atalanta this summer. United have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the 26-year-old, with personal terms said to have already been agreed between the player and the club.
Atalanta and United are thought to be in talks over the terms of his contract, with the hope that the Premier League side would be willing to spend £38m for his signature. The Brazilian-born ace has one year left on his contract with Atalanta and United will be keen to make use of it.
