Marc-Andre ter Stegen will soon become Girona’s new player. The final decision was made after coach Hansi Flick left him on the bench in Thursday’s Copa del Rey match against Racing Santander, sending a clear message to the goalkeeper that he has no intention of playing for Barcelona. And the goalkeeper’s reaction was immediate.
Even though he had not previously given the green light to leave, he has now informed the club of his intention to leave and of his intention to go to Girona. Barcelona, who had already been in contact with the Girona club regarding a loan, were waiting for the goalkeeper to activate his departure as in this case.
The parties have already begun negotiating loan terms. This is not an easy task, as Ter Stegen earns a lot of money, but Girona cannot afford such a high salary. In fact, various sources say they could receive between 10 and 20 percent of his income at Barcelona.
The Blaugrana club has always been aware of this situation and is prepared to take over the majority of the salaries. Negotiations will focus on exactly this, determining how much each club will pay the goalkeeper. A deal is not imminent, but sources close to the Girona club believe it could be reached as early as next week.
