WOusmane Demble is next in line, and Paris Saint-Germain are suddenly in the spotlight after an injury setback in the UEFA Champions League and renewed interest in moving abroad.
According to a report from transfer official Fabrizio Romano, the Ballon d’Or winner played just 26 minutes in PSG’s knockout stage first leg against AS Monaco before being substituted with an apparent injury.
PSG were trailing at the time, but by half-time they were tied 2-2. Substitute Gilles Dou scored immediately after coming on, and Achraf Hakimi equalized late on.
The incident renewed concerns about Demble’s durability, which have long been a determining factor in the trajectory of his career. Despite gaining international acclaim after a shaky few years at FC Barcelona, injuries continue to plague him.
PSG has the depth to wait for Dembele
Dembele has missed 162 games in his career and has already missed 73 days in the 2025-26 season due to four separate issues and 11 games due to muscle issues and illness.
PSG will now have to assess his condition while preparing a contingency plan. Coach Luis Enrique maintains an attacking line-up that can cover the absences of Bradley Barcola, Juvica Kvaratschelia, Do, Ibrahim Mbaye and Gonaro Ramos.
That depth softened the immediate impact against Monaco, but it remains difficult to replicate Demble’s impact when fit. Beyond short-term fitness prospects, long-term questions are also emerging.
Dembele’s next stage could be in Arab football
Sky Sports reports that Saudi Professional League bosses have begun a preliminary investigation into a potential move for Demble in 2026 as part of a new effort to attract the world’s elite talent amid a change in recruitment strategy.
For now, PSG’s priorities are the medical evaluation and recovery schedule, with the competition in Europe still ongoing. But the new injury episode, coupled with external interest, is sure to put both the player’s availability and future trajectory in Paris under scrutiny.
