Aston Villa star Missy Beau Kearns, who is dating Luton Town player Liam Walsh, has spoken out about the heartbreaking miscarriage she suffered last month.

England star Missy Beau Kearns has bravely opened up about her miscarriage. The 25-year-old revealed last month that she had lost her baby with partner and fellow footballer Liam Walsh.

Aston Villa midfielder Kearns first announced her pregnancy with Luton Town player Walsh on March 1. However, tragically, she miscarried later that month under heartbreaking and frightening circumstances.

Kearns decided to speak out about the tragedy to raise awareness about miscarriages and to thank those who have helped her and Walsh over the past month. Explaining what happened in an interview with ITV, Mr Walsh praised Villa Club doctor Jodi Blackadder Weinstein for saving his life after “four days of hell in hospital”.

“It was one of the biggest shocks of my life. I thought it was like a pregnancy symptom, and the doctor came and took my temperature,” Kearns said.

“It was 42 degrees and I was shaking. And the doctor said, ‘Where’s Liam?'” And I said, “I’m not going to the hospital anymore.” I literally went there a few days ago. Everything is fine. They told me everything was fine. ”And she said, “Ring Liam.” And I thought, “He was playing night games.” He’s still in bed. ”

“But I called him and he came. We went to the hospital and found out right away that I had lost the baby and had sepsis. So it was like I was in shock and it was hard because literally an hour before I was doing Pilates and doing the gym and my whole life just changed.”

Sepsis can be life-threatening and occurs when the body overreacts to an infection and begins to damage tissues and organs. Kearns decided to speak publicly about her loss and grief in an effort to combat the stigma surrounding miscarriage.

“I actually feel like I’m the only one this has happened to,” she says. “But the reality is, it’s so common and that’s why I think it’s important to get the message out there and not feel so alone because this is happening to so many people.

“I don’t think people realize how much of a burden it really is on someone. I think we all know how hard it is to lose a child, but obviously the elation of finding out you’re pregnant, the stress of being pregnant, and the worry of getting over 12 weeks, it’s very stressful at the same time as it’s very exciting.

“Then you have an accident like that and all of a sudden you’re not pregnant and your hormones change and the symptoms start to go away overnight. I think it’s a different type of grief. I’ve never experienced it before.”

Kearns has not played for Villa since January and is preparing himself mentally and physically to return this summer. Having made her England debut last summer and won three caps for the Lionesses, she is aiming for next year’s World Cup in Brazil with Sarina Wiegman’s side.

“I know that coming back to football is my happy place. I’m here now and I’m excited to be here. I’m going to continue to build myself up and make sure I’m ready for next season,” she said.

“I want to come back in pre-season and get back to being the Missy Baugh that we all know, smiling, happy, nonstop and engaging people. And I think next year is going to be a big year. My plan during my pregnancy was to be in the World Cup squad and that hasn’t changed.”
