Amazon Prime pundit Wayne Rooney was left baffled after defender Ibrahima Konate spoke to the media after being sent off in Liverpool’s Champions League match against PSG at Anfield
Wayne Rooney has questioned why Liverpool’s leaders neglected their post-match interview obligations following their side’s Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
The Premier League champions need to overturn a two-goal deficit from last week’s game against France and head into Tuesday night’s second leg at Anfield. Unfortunately for Arne Slott’s side, they were unable to get the job done on home soil, with Ousmane Dembele scoring twice late on as PSG won 4-0 on aggregate.
Ibrahima Konate told Amazon Prime immediately after losing in the quarter-finals. That means Liverpool will end the season without a silver medal.
However, given the magnitude of the result and what it means for the Reds’ season, Rooney was surprised to hear from Konate rather than another big name.

The former Manchester United England striker told Amazon: “I was surprised to see him come out and speak. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Konate give an interview. If you want to hear from one of the leaders after the tournament, it would have been nice to see one of the leaders come out.”
“I know they actually came out and did a lot of interviews, but I think it was the wrong time for Konate to come out and do the interviews.”
The defeat means Liverpool will not be able to win any trophies this season, but with six league games remaining, they still have a good chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
And Konate believes Liverpool performed well enough against the reigning European champions to prove they can finish the season on a high in the Premier League.
“A lot has happened, but we don’t need to forget that. Today’s game meant a lot because we played against PSG, who were a little better than last season. To perform like that, we need to build from there and realize how good we are,” he told Amazon.
“Playing in the Champions League is the minimum standard for Liverpool. We have six games left and we have to give our all in those six games.”
