Arsenal’s journey to reach the Champions League final begins on April 29th when they face Atletico Madrid in Spain, with the second leg of the semi-final to be played at the Emirates. The Gunners narrowly edged out Sporting CP at the Emirates to reach the last four for the second consecutive season.
Mikel Arteta’s side won 1-0 against Portugal before holding their opponents to a 0-0 draw at home. They were eliminated by PSG last season and will face Atletico Madrid 12 months later. Diego Simeone’s side lost 4-0 to Arsenal earlier this season, but defeated Barcelona in the quarter-finals to book a place in the semi-finals.
Simeone is aiming to reach the Champions League final for the third time after losing to Real Madrid in 2014 and 2016.
They will pick up the Premier League squad in late April and head to London on May 5th. In the other semi-final, holders PSG will face Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid in the greatest classic of all time, decided by the late stamina of Luis Díaz and Michael Olise.
PSG ended Liverpool’s European ambitions for the second year in a row and at times looked unstoppable in their bid to retain the title.
The semi-final will be a repeat of the 2020 Champions League final, which was won by the German side. PSG will host the first leg on April 28th before heading to the Allianz Arena eight days later on May 6th.
Last year, PSG defeated Inter Milan in the final to win the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. Luis Enrique was also instrumental in Barcelona’s success in 2015 and is aiming for a third Champions League success.
Arsenal and Atletico are both aiming for their first European win. Both teams have suffered final defeats in the past, but one side will be 90 minutes away from a historic first victory.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and Real locked horns in a breathtaking encounter, with the hosts winning 4-3 on the night, resulting in a 6-4 aggregate draw in favor of the German giants. Manager Eduardo Camavinga was sent off in the closing stages, and former Liverpool wingers Dias and Olise scored late goals to seal the victory.
