Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike appears to have sustained a serious injury in the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield, but Reds manager Arne Slott has provided an update on the Frenchman.
Liverpool manager Arne Slott has admitted that Hugo Ekitike’s injury remains a concern and the striker will soon be leaving Anfield.
The French player was involved in a strange incident during the first half of the match against his former team. He fell in agony without any resistance.
He required treatment from Liverpool doctors before being carried off the pitch on a stretcher. And Slott doesn’t seem particularly optimistic.
“It wasn’t very good. Everyone could see that he didn’t look good, he didn’t look right. It was obvious to everyone that he didn’t look good. In the second half, he went home and I didn’t see him,” the Dutchman said in an interview on Amazon Prime Video.
“It also seems like we’ve lost players a lot this season, so it’s very difficult for him because the last thing you want to do is get injured at this stage of the season.”

Ekitike, 23, was just signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer and has become one of the bright spots for the Reds after a miserable season. He has scored 17 goals in all competitions.
His club and national teammate Ibrahima Konate also spoke out and expressed his concerns.
The defender said: “I think this is bad. I don’t know, I’ve heard a lot of things, but I don’t have the words to say about it. Because with the World Cup coming up, it’s very, very difficult for him, so I’m sending him my prayers.”
There was further concern after Jeremy Frimpong was sent off at half-time and his replacement Joe Gomez was substituted at half-time.
Alexander Isak started the match, but had a difficult night and was substituted at the break.
These potential injuries came on a difficult night for the Reds on Merseyside. The Reds needed another comeback at Anfield following the defeat in Paris. However, Ousmane Dembele’s two goals forced them to be kicked out of the Champions League, ending the season without a silver medal.
Liverpool now need to focus on the task of qualifying for next year’s Champions League. Slott’s side sit in fifth place heading into this weekend’s clash with Merseyside rivals Everton.
After that, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brentford are scheduled to participate before the end of the season, making for a difficult final stage of the season.
