Scotland have announced their World Cup squad after manager Steve Clarke named 26 players to travel to the United States for the summer tournament.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke has announced his 26-man squad for the World Cup.
Goalkeeper Scott Bain was out with an injury and missed out on the squad for the final game against Rangers. Veteran shot-stopper Craig Gordon has been selected alongside Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly and, at 43, could become the second oldest player to play in the World Cup. Grant Hanley has also been named but will likely be in contention for the position after the veteran defender suffered a knee injury in Hibernian’s last game. Wrexham’s Dominic Higham had been tipped as a possible replacement, but was brought into the team alongside Hanley. Higham had just made his full debut against Ivory Coast in March. The timing couldn’t have been better, with Ross Stewart being recalled to the Scotland squad late after his form at Southampton. Aston Villa star John McGinn’s place was never in doubt, but it was a strong start to a big week for the midfielder, who is set to captain Unai Emery’s side in the Europa League final against Freiburg. The group will now compete for a place in coach Steve Clarke’s starting XI against Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.
