WDespite the possibility of reaching the Clausura Liguilla in 2026, Rayados are already planning for the next tournament and their first priority is securing their next head coach. This position became vacant after the dismissal of Domenech Torrent, and Nico Sanchez did not live up to expectations.
The Monterrey board, said to be headed by Denis te Klose, already has four candidates for the managerial position, with Miguel Herrera potentially competing against three other Argentine players: Matias Almeida, Hernán Crespo and Martin Anselmi.

Rayados de Monterrey manager candidates for 2026
According to Felipe Galindo, there are four candidates to take charge of La Pandilla in the 2026 Apertura. One is a Mexican coach and three are Argentine nationals.
A reporter from RG La Deportivo and Multimedios said: “The Albia Sur board has already analyzed the profile and started formal contact with the various coaches and has made it clear that the 2026-2027 sporting project is an absolute priority.”
There are four names in Rayados’ folder, three of whom have experience in Liga MX such as Matias Almeida, Martin Anselmi and Miguel Herrera, and another very attractive player such as Hernan Crespo who has finished his stint in Sao Paulo.
Matias Almeida: The Argentine is already aware of the demand for a coach in Mexico after his brilliant performance with Chivas, and even if he turned down offers from Liga MX in the past to fulfill his European dreams, he will look favorably on an offer from Monterrey, especially after his sacking from Sevilla, as he knows they have a big portfolio to strengthen the team.
Martin Anselmi: His departure from Cruz Azul has not received much attention, but an offer from Porto was one that few could have turned down. After his failures with the Blue Dragons and Botafogo, there is no doubt that the Argentine would be an interesting option in Monterrey, especially since there is a possibility of a project with his own style that would fit perfectly in Liga MX during the La Macina era.
Miguel Herrera: Piojo’s name was also on Rayados’ list. However, his arrival seems complicated as he is scheduled to arrive in Atlante. He thus leaves second stage life in Monterrey, with whom he reached the finals of the 2004 Apertura and the 2005 Clausura, but was eliminated in both tournaments.
“Rayados has already contacted all the candidates mentioned and is waiting to decide on the sporting project that will set the direction of the team,” said coach Felipe Galindo, so the Monterrey upper management will be responsible for making the decision.
