Paul Pogba, who is currently a Monaco player after serving an 18-month ban for doping, has revealed on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast why he divorced Jose Mourinho during their time at Manchester United. The 33-year-old French midfielder claims Mourinho exploded after being questioned constantly about his injury problems and his future at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United in 2016 for a fee of over €100m, but Mourinho left the Red Devils’ bench in December 2018.
“I don’t want to be disrespectful. I have no problem with any coach. I always respect them. They tell me what to do. They are the bosses. That’s the truth. They are the bosses. They decide whether to play or not,” the Frenchman said.
Pogba: “In the beginning, Mourinho and I got along very well and were texting each other. He’s a very funny person.”
Paul Pogba said of his relationship with Mourinho: “In the beginning, we got along really well, sending each other messages and stuff. He’s a very interesting guy. To be honest, he’s a really special person. Then after a while, I think[the relationship drifted away]because of injuries.”
“When the media was constantly asking him questions about me, maybe that made him think, ‘Is he done yet?'” And that’s my problem, too. Like many people, they love to ask about me. “It’s always Paul, Paul, Paul, and that’s probably what annoyed him,” he shared.

Paul Pogba has admitted that his relationship with Mourinho began to deteriorate after the Portuguese coach sent his agent Mino Raiola a photo of him and his wife (Zuray) while Mourinho was recovering from injury, which left Mourinho furious.

Mourinho called Pogba a ‘virus’ and the pair got into an argument during training.
The French footballer said Mourinho reinforced his break with him by stripping him of his vice-captainship and making sarcastic comments about his performances. Mo went so far as to call Pogba a “virus”.
Pogba and Mourinho’s relationship finally broke down after the two were caught on camera arguing during training.
Pogba left Old Trafford as a free agent after his contract with United expired, returning to Juventus in the summer of 2022.
