WWith 50 days left until the start of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, fans are not only debating who will win the championship, but also focusing on strikers at the peak of their careers, legends who could be playing in their final major, and young players looking to establish themselves among the elite.

The format has been expanded to include 48 teams, increasing the number of matches and, with it, the opportunities for players. This opens the door for more surprises, goals and up-and-coming stars to share the stage with established legends looking to make their mark on football history.

Who are the forwards to watch at the 2026 World Cup?

Among the outstanding players are some historical figures that, as expected, cannot be left out of this list. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could enter their sixth and final World Cup appearance, maintaining their influence and scoring ability.

Meanwhile, among the names emerging as top attractions is Kylian Mbapp. He led a new generation of stars with his speed, finishing ability and experience in high-stakes tournaments, winning Russia in 2018 and finishing runner-up in 2022. Moreover, his role with the French national team means he remains one of the front-runners for the Golden Boot.

Another big focus was Erling Haaland, whose physical ability and 16 goals in qualifying helped Norway secure a place in the 2026 tournament. They are not normally among the favorites to win trophies, but his presence will ensure he makes an impact in any game.

Brazilian Vincius Junior has emerged as one of the tournament’s most game-changing players. He has shown steady development in attack and is playing an increasingly important role within Canarinha.

England are dreaming of a second World Cup title, led by captain Harry Kane, a legendary player and one of the most complete forwards in the world, with his scoring instincts, vision and teamwork.

But the 2026 World Cup will also serve as a showcase for promising young talent. Spain’s Lamine Yamal will arrive after a period of inactivity, having missed the rest of the season with Barcelona after recently injuring the biceps femoris in his left leg. Despite his young age, he is considered one of the most promising talents due to his ability to penetrate defenses and his creativity, and is expected to be at his best in the tournament.

The same goes for Brazilian Endrik, who epitomizes the modern striker: powerful and with keen goal-scoring instincts.

Alexander Isak (Sweden), Kendry Pez (Ecuador), Arda Goulart (Turkey), Lennart Karl (Germany) and Ollie Watkins (England) will also be in good form at the World Cup and could use this opportunity to firmly establish themselves on the international stage.

With legends and emerging talent on the same stage, the 2026 World Cup is shaping up to be a tournament marked by historical legacy and generational change, and promises to redefine who will be the leading attacking force in world football.
