Erling Haaland starred in Manchester City’s match against Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday. But apart from goals and soccer, the Norwegian once again surprised fans by revealing a little-known side of himself: his love for Mexican food, especially tacos.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, the 25-year-old striker shared his daily life as a City player with his followers, but the details of his cooking also went unnoticed.
Haaland confesses his love for Mexican tacos
In a video blog, the Norwegian star spoke about his desire to train, his physical preparation and the food he eats at City’s facilities. It was during a visit to a fancy restaurant that he confessed his love for this cuisine.
As Haaland watched the chef prepare the tacos, he expressed his enthusiasm by saying that tacos are one of his favorite foods.
“Tacos are one of my favorite things,” he said with a big smile. “It’s very delicious. It’s the best food. It’s good for your health.”
Erling’s remarks immediately sparked a reaction on social media among Mexican fans, who praised the striker’s taste in the dish, but also pointed out that the version Erling tried was far from the authentic taste of traditional tacos.
This unexpected confession also opens the door to some interesting possibilities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That means Haaland might try some authentic tacos in Mexico.
The tournament, which will run from June 11th to July 19th, will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, so not only will Erling be able to fulfill his dream of attending the event, he will also be able to enjoy some Mexican food.
Norway is included in Group I along with France, Senegal and Iraq, and so far the official schedule shows most of the group’s matches to be played at venues in the United States.
But if they can advance from the group stage, they could finally get a real taste of the country in the round of 16, with games in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
Haaland and his teammates will make their debut against Iraq on June 17th at 3pm ET at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The second game will be against Senegal at MetLife Stadium on the 23rd at 9pm ET. Finally, they wrap up their group stage game against France on the 26th before returning to Gillette Stadium for a game that kicks off at 6pm ET.
