FC Barcelona defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 in La Liga on Wednesday, regaining a nine-point gap over Real Madrid. In this game, Lamine Yamal and Juu Cancelo suffered injuries before half-time.
Yamal was injured while scoring a penalty goal, ensuring Barcelona’s eighth consecutive league win and continuing their strong march towards the La Liga title.
The Spain and Portugal defenders were both sent off with apparent muscle injuries, raising concerns ahead of the 2026 World Cup in June. There was no immediate update on the severity of either injury.
Yamal converted a penalty in the 40th minute and immediately notified the bench of his injury. As his teammates celebrated, he fell to the ground and appeared to grab the sole of his left foot, suggesting a possible hamstring injury.
The young star left the pitch on his own after receiving medical treatment. He spoke briefly with head coach Hansi Flick on the sideline before heading down the tunnel to the locker room.
Cancelo was already sent off in the 24th minute with an apparent right foot injury, further increasing Barcelona’s list of concerns.
The match was also briefly suspended for approximately 15 minutes after Yamal’s goal because a medical emergency occurred in the stands and a fan required emergency treatment.
Madrid briefly narrowed the gap to six points with a 2-1 win over Arabs on Tuesday, but Barcelona’s victory took them back to the top with six games remaining in the Spanish league.
