Fenerbahce are reportedly considering signing Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr as a replacement for former Manchester United midfielder Fred. Sarr, 23, is believed to be on the Turkish side’s list of interested midfielders.
Turkish media Fotomac claimed that negotiations were underway to bring the midfielder to the Turkish Super Lig. The European powerhouse team, managed by former Belgian coach Domenico Tedesco, is also considering hiring Fred, who is known for playing at Old Trafford for five seasons from 2018 to 2023.
Fred joined Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018 for £49 million, before moving to the Sukr Saracioglu Stadium in 2023 for £8.62 million. His career in Türkiye is currently uncertain, with the club rumored to be linked with Sarr and a number of other midfielders.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s new manager Roberto De Zerbi will not want to spend time thinking about transfers right now. The club missed a chance to cross the dreaded dotted line last weekend.
Victory over De Zerbi’s former club Brighton & Hove Albion was supposed to be Spurs’ first win in the Premier League in 2026, but victory seemed assured when Xavi Simmons converted a top corner to make the score 2-1. However, Georginio Rutter’s goal in the 95th minute took away all three points, leaving them with just one point.
After the game, a frustrated De Zerbi said, “I’m proud of their performance. They have to get stronger, be more focused, and come to the practice field on Monday afternoon with smiles on their faces. Otherwise they’ll go home.”
“I don’t have time to look at negative people, sad players or sad assistants. I’m lucky because I work at a big club, in a big stadium and I work in the Premier League. I have to be positive because I have the qualities and qualities to win games. I don’t like people who cry or think negatively.”
Tottenham face relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend in a must-win match for the club. Spurs will finish the season with games against Aston Villa (away), Leeds United (home), Chelsea (away) and Everton (home).
