TThe second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals became the talk of the town not only because of Barcelona’s defeat to Atltico Madrid (3-2 on aggregate), but also because of a strange coincidence.
A few hours later, in Brazil, Neymar drew attention when he imitated a gesture made by Lamine Yamal during a match at the Metropolitano. Coincidence or compliment?
Neymar imitated Lamine
In the first half of the game with a place in the Champions League semi-finals on the line, Lamine not only scored Rose’s first goal, but also played a starring role in another notable moment.
The youngster sat on the ball near the corner flag during the suspension of play as his teammate Fermun Lupez collided with the Atltico Madrid goalkeeper as he went to retrieve the ball, hitting him in the face and being treated by medical staff.
The gesture was controversial, with some seeing it as a sign of calm and composure in the face of match pressure, while others criticized it.
But hours later, Neymar copied the movements of the young Rose star, creating an image that has already gone viral.

The Brazilian starred in the 1-1 draw between Santos and Recoleta in the Copa Sudamericana, a match full of goals, spectacle and controversy. Neymar took the lead in just four minutes with some quick play, but his opponent equalized the score. Afterwards, he was criticized for his fitness, but the Santos idol responded by demanding respect and defending his contribution to the team.
Nevertheless, since only a few hours had passed between the matches between Barcelona and Santos, Neymar’s gesture of imitating Yamal was interpreted as a mere coincidence, while others thought it reflected the close relationship and mutual admiration between the two, and was a clear sign of unity between the “idol and successor”.
This connection should come as no surprise. Yamal has acknowledged many times that Neymar is his biggest role model in football and the influence that shaped his style from an early age, and even before the match he expressed his desire to see him play alongside Canarinha at the World Cup.
Thus, overnight, Neymar became the protagonist of a strange intergenerational “back and forth” with Lamine Yamal, combining spectacle, tributes and controversy.
