Erling Haaland responded to Manchester United’s defeat to Leeds United with a two-word message on social media. Noah Okafor scored both goals, and Lisandro Martinez was also sent off. Casemiro pulled one back, but it proved not enough to change the result, giving United just their second defeat under manager Michael Carrick.
After the match, Manchester City forward Haaland took to Snapchat and shared an image of Okafor playing full-time with the caption: “Good luck.” The Leeds-born striker appears to be celebrating the victory for the club his father Alf Inge once represented. Los Blancos won their first league title since 1981 at Old Trafford.
Okafor seemed to get a little too excited while celebrating, cursing at the television cameras. As the camera zoomed in on him, the Swiss international shouted: “Let’s go! Let’s definitely go!”
The defeat leaves United in third place, level on 55 points with Aston Villa, who drew 1-1 at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. It also meant they were unable to widen the gap with sixth-placed Chelsea in the Champions League battle.
Five Premier League clubs will automatically qualify for the Champions League, but Aston Villa could claim sixth place in the division if they finish fifth and win the Europa League trophy.
United’s interim head coach Carrick said after the game: “We didn’t start the game particularly well. Lenny Yolo took a forearm to the back of the head and we obviously conceded the goal as we lost the lead.”
“They didn’t decide to reverse that decision. That was a big moment of the game. We just didn’t quite get our rhythm, we didn’t get going and we had some moments, but it wasn’t enough for most of the first half.”
“But in the second half, even after the players made the shocking and shocking decision to send off[Lissandro Martinez]I thought we stayed positive and fought to get something.
“Two games in a row with decisions like that going against us, but that was one of the worst games I’ve seen.”
Meanwhile, City scored a decisive win against Chelsea after Arsenal lost 2-1 at home to Bournemouth. They trail Arsenal by just six points but have a game in hand and will welcome Mikel Arteta’s side to the Etihad next weekend in what is expected to be a title decider.
