THBO’s new Harry Potter TV adaptation recently made headlines not only for its innovative approach, but also for an unexpected detail: the appearance of Argentine soccer player Diego Armando Maradona.
Recently, a documentary entitled ‘Finding Harry: Behind the Magic’, which gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the series, revealed a figurine of an Argentinian symbol affixed to the wall of the iconic cupboard under the Dursleys’ stairs. Harry Potter and Soccer fans were unaware of this and were quick to share their opinion with X.
Was Maradona Harry Potter’s idol?
Although this strange find is not part of JK Rowling’s book, Maradona’s immersion into the world of Harry Potter caught the attention of fans thanks to the #10 sticker.
In it, wearing the Argentina national team jersey and blue captain’s armband, he is seen on the field with the ball in a dynamic pose, as if about to perform a spell.
The image is based on a Panini album sticker from the 1990 World Cup in Italy, the setting of the Harry Potter stories and where Maradona was already a global football icon after becoming champion in 1986.
Although the appearance was brief, it was enough to create a buzz on social media, with football fans and ‘Potterheads’ celebrating the appearance of an iconic figure like Maradona in a completely unexpected context.
“The greatest wizard in history,” said one of them.
“Why isn’t he? Diego is amazing,” another wrote.
“I’d love to see them play quidditch together,” a third fan commented.
In addition to this interesting Maradona-inspired detail, the documentary also featured other aspects of the large-scale production, such as the creation of costumes, sets, and creatures.
But elements like this reinforce the idea that new adaptations not only aim to be faithful to the books, but also incorporate small creative details that enrich the visual experience of new generations.
The first season of Harry Potter will consist of eight episodes and will premiere on HBO Max in December 2026, in time for Christmas.
