○Fans’ wildest dreams may never come true. Following the retirements of Lionel Messi’s closest teammates at Inter Miami, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the team is looking to surround their captain with top-tier players, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates could join them.
Portuguese midfielder and Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has emerged as one of the candidates to join the pink and black club in a bid to remain competitive in MLS.
Silva vs. Messi could become a reality
According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Boravip), the Herons have high hopes for CR7’s Portugal team-mate, who will be a free agent in June.
After eight seasons at the Etihad Stadium, the 31-year-old star is not expected to renew his contract with the Citizens and has hinted at a desire to leave England for a new challenge. Javier Mascherano’s side have therefore emerged as one of the leading candidates to sign the Portuguese star, who would bring his experience, creativity and leadership alongside the Argentine star and strengthen a midfield currently led by Ayala, Bright and De Paul.
This possibility further fuels the dream of seeing Bernardo and Messi play together, and could make him one of the most interesting players in the next transfer window, beyond the historic and sporting rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi.
But David Beckham’s team are not the only team considering signing Silva. Juventus, Barcelona, Benfica and Galatasaray are also interested in the player, and given his status, a transfer to any club could be arranged directly and free of charge.
Silva has bounced back from being knocked out of the Champions League by Josep Guardiola’s Real Madrid, but was able to bounce back from that harsh blow by defeating Arsenal to win the EFL Cup. This is Bernardo’s 17th title since arriving in England (six Premier League titles, five EFL Cup titles, two FA Cups, three Community Shields and one Champions League title).
Meanwhile, the Portuguese has not made it clear where he will leave after leaving Man City and there is no shortage of options, but Inter Miami will hope that he considers them and continues to add titles to his trophy case.
