IScoring goals is not easy, and scoring a total of 900 points is not something everyone can do. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the only two players to reach this milestone, but just as many fans celebrated hundreds of goals, others struggled with it.
Throughout their careers, both have punished numerous clubs in the world’s top leagues, but there is one team that stands out as their “favorite victim”. In fact, they both have a top five rival within Spain, the team that scores the most points. And how do they stack up at the national team level?
Teams with Leo and CR7 conceding the most goals
In Lionel Messi’s case, he reached 900 goals when he scored in the 7th minute of the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 vs. Nashville SC, despite Inter Miami’s elimination. Coincidentally, this is the first non-Spanish team in which Leo scored the most goals (16 goals in 12 games).
However, during his time at Barcelona, Messi tormented five teams in terms of goals, but the one he struggled with the most was Sevilla, scoring 38 goals in 43 competitive matches. Atltico Madrid are next on the list with 32 goals despite playing the same number of games. He finished third with 31 points against Valencia and 29 points against Athletic Club de Bilbao. Rose’s eternal rivals, Real Madrid, finished in the top five with 26 goals in 47 games. Meanwhile, the national team that conceded the most goals to Leo was Bolivia, with a total of 11 goals conceded.
Cristiano Ronaldo also distinguished himself during his nine seasons at Real Madrid, scoring 27 goals in 18 games against Sevilla and 25 goals in 37 games against Atlético Madrid. CR7 scored 23 goals against Getafe and 20 against Celta de Vigo. Like Messi, Barcelona ranks fifth on Portugal’s list of stars, having conceded 20 goals in 34 games in all competitions. Furthermore, while playing for the Portugal national team, the Luxembourg national team allowed Cristiano 11 goals on 11 separate occasions.
Meanwhile, most of Messi’s goals came with Barcelona, where he scored 672 goals. He went on to add another 32 goals for Paris Saint-Germain, and has already scored 81 for Inter Miami. He also scored 115 goals for the Argentina national team.
CR7 has scored 965 goals so far, including 451 with Real Madrid, 145 with Manchester United, 101 with Juventus, 5 with Sporting CP and 121 with Al Nasr. Furthermore, he has scored 143 goals for the Portuguese national team. Despite this, a hamstring injury suffered on February 28th has kept him off the field. Although the timing of his return has not been determined, he is scheduled to resume training on April 3rd.
These numbers not only prove his lethality in goal, making him one of the most feared strikers in modern football, but also highlight his ability to perform in any situation and against almost any opponent.
