Cristiano Ronaldo has made headlines once again, but this time it wasn’t for a goal or an injury, but for the warm and emotional message he shared.
While celebrating Father’s Day in Portugal, the 41-year-old Portuguese star didn’t want to miss out on the special day. He not only celebrated his role as a father to his children, but also remembered Jos Dinis Aveiro, who passed away on September 7, 2005.
Message from CR7 to his father
The Portuguese forward surprised his followers by posting two photos and a short but heartfelt message to his father and children on his official social media accounts, revealing how important family is in his life beyond a successful career as a footballer.
“De onde venho e para quem vivo. Feliz Dia do Pai” (Where am I from and who am I living for? Happy Father’s Day), the Portuguese star wrote, along with a red heart emoji.
In the photo, Cristiano and his future wife Georgina Rodrguez are seen posing with their children Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. (his eldest son, born before he met the model), twins Eva and Mateo (born via surrogate), Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda.
The second photo is from a few years ago and shows a young Cristiano with his father, Jos Dinis Aveiro, who died at the age of 51 almost 20 years ago. According to reports, his cause of death was liver failure due to alcoholism following the war between Portugal and Angola.
His death coincided with his son starting to make a name for himself at Manchester United, so Cristiano never got to see him become the star he is today.
These types of posts are nothing new for the athlete, who has publicly expressed the love and influence his father had on his personal and professional life on several occasions.
Meanwhile, CR7 is in Spain, traveling to Madrid to treat a hamstring injury he suffered after being substituted in the 3-1 match between Al Nasr and Al Fayha on February 28.
The player is expected to return to the field for Al Nasr’s match against Al Najma around April 3, but his availability for Portugal’s final two World Cup warm-up games against Mexico and against the USMNT on March 31 remains in doubt.
