IPolish forward Robert Lewandowski starred with two goals as they thrashed Newcastle United (7-2) in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, moving them ahead of Lionel Messi in the competition.
Lewandowski breaks Messi’s record in Champions League
After scoring twice against Newcastle United, Robert Lewandowski added the English club to the list of opponents he has scored against, bringing the number to 41, more than any other player in the entire history of the Champions League.
Lionel Messi scored against 40 different clubs during his career with FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, while Cristiano Ronaldo scored against a total of 38 different opponents.
Lewandowski scored in five minutes to become the third-highest scorer in the Champions League knockout stages, behind soccer giants Cristiano Ronaldo (67 goals) and Lionel Messi (49 goals).
It remains to be seen whether the FC Barcelona striker will be able to help the club win the Champions League, a trophy Lionel Messi has not been able to win since 2015, when he was still playing for the club.
