BArcelona has already appointed a president for the next five years. His victory over Victor Font strengthens his leadership at a crucial stage for the team’s organizational and sporting future.
Laporta wins by a landslide in opinion polls
Barcelona’s presidential election marked a new chapter in the club’s democratic history. A total of 114,504 members were eligible to vote to choose the top leader to lead the agency for the next five years.
In the end, 48,480 people participated, with an attendance rate of 42.34%. Although this number is lower than those recorded in the 2021 elections, the election process was carried out smoothly at various venues.
The results were clear: Laporta received 32,934 votes, or 68.18% of the total. The font received 14,384 votes or 29.78%. Additionally, 984 blank votes and 177 invalid votes were recorded.
The difference allowed Laporta to achieve one of the widest margins of victory in the club’s recent history, a margin not seen since 1997.
The important role of Spotify Camp Nou in the vote
A large number of votes were cast at the iconic Camp Nou, where most polling stations are located.
A total of 122 polling stations were set up in five locations: Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Lleida and Andorra. However, Catalonia’s capital concentrated the greatest amount of campaign activity.
Only Barcelona had 43,282 members voting, showing how important a role the city plays in the club’s institutional decisions. Still, the total turnout was lower than the number recorded in 2021, when more than 55,000 members cast their votes.
Laporta celebrates with his team after Barcelona’s victory
The festive atmosphere started even before the official results were confirmed. Barcelona’s team exercised their right to vote after playing a league match against Sevilla that they clearly lost.
After the match, several players shared a moment of celebration with Laporta at the stadium, foreshadowing the positive atmosphere that would eventually intensify with the final announcement of the result.
