WWith the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, players are at risk of being sidelined by virtually any injury, especially if it involves the knee. That’s why the sight of Benja Klemaski leaving the field in tears has caused concern in the U.S. national team’s camp.
What happened to Benja Kremaski?
The game between Turin and Parma had just begun when something happened that set off all sorts of alarm bells. Just a few minutes into the game, Klemaski attempted his first play with his left foot, but immediately after touching the ball he felt discomfort in his left foot and placed his hand on the affected area. The midfielder sought medical assistance and remained on the pitch for several minutes.
Medical staff bandaged the injury, and the player decided to try to continue the match. However, upon returning to play, it was immediately apparent that he was unable to properly support his legs, suggesting that the problem may be more serious than originally thought.
According to the medical report from Parma, Klemaski has suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, effectively ruling him out of the World Cup.
“Benjamin Klemaski, who was injured in yesterday’s match against Torino, underwent a medical and orthopedic examination today and it was revealed that he has suffered a tear in the lateral meniscus of his left knee,” Parma coach announced on social media.
How long will Kremaski be out?
It added that his treatment and return to action plan will be assessed and determined in the coming days, pending a surgical examination. Klemaski will likely have to go to the operating room, and if he undergoes surgery he risks not only missing the World Cup but also the rest of the year.
Klemaski’s absence will be another blow to the U.S. national team, which also recently suffered an injury to fullback Sergino Dest. Going forward, Mauricio Pochettino will have to adjust his squad to compensate for the loss of the former Inter Miami youngster.
