The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) and UEFA are expected to decide on the venue for the final between Argentina and Spain next week, a source from South America’s governing body told EFE on Thursday.
“Conmebol today confirmed to UEFA officials that a decision on the Finalissima could be made next week,” the source said.
The match, scheduled for March 27, was due to be played at Lusail Stadium, but the Qatar Football Association last Sunday announced the cancellation of all tournaments and competitions, citing instability in the region caused by the US-Israeli armed conflict against Iran.
The Argentina national team, which defeated Italy 3-0 in 2022, is the current champion of the Finalissima, a competition whose predecessor was the Artemio Franchi Cup, which was won between France and Uruguay in 1985 and between Argentina and Denmark in 1993.
