GDue to armed conflict in the Middle East, Finalissima is at risk of having its venue changed. For this reason, CONMEBOL and UEFA will hold a summit with several issues on the agenda, the most important of which is to define how the match between Argentina and Spain will go.
The Finalissima was originally scheduled to be held on March 27 at the Lusail World Cup Stadium in Qatar. Alternative plans are currently being considered, both in terms of venue and schedule, but it must be made clear that the match has not been officially canceled at this time. However, Qatar has suspended sports activities for the safety of athletes and participants, and there is no prospect of resuming them.
Where will Finalissima be held?
So far, London and Miami have emerged as the main options to host the conference. However, both possibilities have been criticized for their fairness, given the proximity of London to Spain, giving La Roja fans the opportunity to travel. In Miami, the opposite is true for the Albiceleste, in addition to Miami being the home of Lionel Messi and the United States’ involvement in the armed conflict that led to the Finalissima being moved in the first place. Both federations therefore need to reach an agreement on a venue that is as neutral as possible and prioritizes the safety of athletes. Therefore, the venue chosen is very likely to be Asia.
The meeting between UEFA and Conmebol on Thursday 5th March will be decisive in deciding the new venue for the Finalissima.
Luis de la Fuente requests change of venue for final match
Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente has already spoken out on the matter, calling for the venue to be moved to a location that will ensure the safety of participants.
Can’t play there, but find another venue if possible
For now, we will have to wait until Thursday to find out the decision of UEFA and CONMEBOL regarding this exciting match. This exciting match will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the European Championship and Copa America champions to face each other in an official match.
