○On July 29, 1990, the Balaidos Stadium hosted Madonna’s historic concert as one of the last stops on Blonde Ambition’s European tour. That night, in front of a packed stadium, the artist wore the Celta shirt with the number 5, which was usually worn by defender Espinosa at the time. This moment, captured by photographer Victor de las Heras, has become an iconic image in the history of the club and the city.
After the performance, the costume was lost and has not been seen since. The president wrote an open letter to her to help find the artist. Celta has now revealed that the investigation had been stalled for some time after years of private investigation.
A statement from the Vigo club reads: “Now, 36 years later, we wish every Celta fan to find this shirt, with the aim of incorporating it into our historical archive. For Celta, it is part of our emotional heritage. It is a garment that is unique and cannot be reproduced. For this reason, the Club would appreciate any relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the shirt worn by Madonna on stage at Balidos. To this end, the Club has set up a link to receive information relating to the garment. ”
Memorial before the match against Real Madrid
In an effort to exhaust all investigative avenues, Celta also published an open letter from its president Marian Mourino to Madonna, so that she could provide any relevant information or keep the shirt.
For this reason, the club will take advantage of the great show that this match represents and dedicate a “gesture of love” to the artist in a special action that will take place at the Balaidos Stadium this Friday at 8:45 pm, just before the start of the match against Real Madrid. All this is part of the great marketing campaign launched by the club since Marian Mourino became president, in which music has played a special role, including the centenary anthem composed by C. Tangana.
