WWhat at first seemed like a risky adventure with a direct ticket into uncertainty, has become an experience that requires greater commitment and responsibility as amazing results are being achieved in Wrexham. Wrexham is a project that will set an example for the future and a model for global football.
Actor Ryan Reynolds and his partner Rob McElhenney invested in buying the team despite knowing nothing about soccer. All he had was the money to gamble on a business that was initially unprofitable. On the contrary, it was a fifth-division club with no future, starting with a losing record. It gave the impression that it was business entertainment, an unnecessary waste of capital, or a hobby toy. But that wasn’t the case.
It instantly clicked between the parties. This was an outcome that would have been unthinkable a few decades ago. The Welsh side were promoted to the Fourth Division in 2023, the Third Division in 2024 and the Second Division in 2025. I was promoted to three divisions in three years. They are currently competing in the Championship, the promotion circuit to the Premier League. If that wasn’t enough, they are also fighting for promotion to the Premier League and are in the last 16 of the FA Cup.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny make big announcement
No one would have believed that the team’s new owners would be so committed to the project in terms of reinvigorating the essence of football: identity and belonging with the community. That’s exactly what they’ve achieved and we hope to build on.
The connection with fans and local residents is special. In fact, fans of other English clubs have adopted Wrexham as their second team. Because it resonates with me. Recognizing this, Reynolds and McElhenney are looking for ways to reach people and have made an important announcement.
In anticipation of live narrating Swansea matches, Rob McElhenney and I sent each other 90-minute audio notes for five years. Let’s do it! Enjoy live from Wrexham on March 13th
The live broadcast will take place on Sky Sports and Paramount+ in the US during the famous Welsh derby between Wrexham and Swansea City. It is expected to be a full day of celebration for the community as it will take place at their home in Wrexham.
Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds are about to make history!
After 35 matches, the Welsh side are in 6th place overall. Of the 24 teams competing in the Championship, Wrexham are in the top six aiming for a coveted ticket to the Premier League.
57 points, 15 wins, 12 draws, 8 losses, 54 points, 45 points
They are 14 points behind leaders Coventry City and nine points behind second-placed Middlesbrough. The teams that finish the season in the top two positions will be directly promoted. Teams that finish 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th will play a playoff round, and one of the four teams will be promoted. Wrexham and Reynolds remain fixed on their goal of direct qualification, but are also eyeing the possibility of earning a third ticket in the play-offs. With 11 games remaining, they will be doing everything they can to aim for promotion to the Premier League and the fourth tier for the first time in three years.
