Real Madrid will miss Cristiano Ronaldo: without him they could not repeat this record in La Liga

WWithout a doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo lives on in the hearts and memories of every Real Madrid fan. However, as the team’s all-time leading scorer, he has not had great results in La Liga, and his absence is weighing heavily on the team.

The truth is that Los Merengues have not scored more than 100 goals since his departure, highlighting not only the Portuguese’s talent, but also the club’s lack of it without him.

Real Madrid won’t be the same without CR7

Álvaro Arbeloa’s team lost 1-0 against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu, and also lost 2-1 against Osasuna on Saturday 21 February.

The team has scored just 54 goals this season, and with 12 games remaining, it looks like it will be difficult to break the 100-goal mark for the eighth consecutive season.

The last time Real Madrid achieved this milestone was when the Portuguese moved to Juventus in 2018. Prior to that, and during eight of his nine seasons at the club, Cristiano had scored over 100 goals in La Liga consecutively.

In fact, the club’s best season after the 41-year-old Portuguese star’s departure came in 2023/2024, when Carlo Ancelotti was still in charge of Real Madrid. They won the title and scored 87 goals, but there were seasons like the 2018/2019 season where they only scored 63 goals.

To understand the influence of the current Al Nasr captain, before his arrival, Los Merengues had only surpassed 100 goals once. In addition, Cristiano has won a total of 16 official titles with this white shirt: 4 UEFA Champions Leagues, 2 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey titles, 2 Spanish Super Cups, 3 Club World Cups and 3 European Super Cups.

Despite the arrival of football’s biggest stars such as Karim Benzema, Vinicius and Kylian Mbappé, this situation has not been able to be reversed, and this was even more evident in games such as against Getafe.

After this latest defeat, Real Madrid head into March with important tasks in La Liga and the Champions League.

On Friday 6th March, they will travel to the Abanca Balaidos Stadium to face Celta Vigo in matchday 27 of LaLiga. On Wednesday, March 11th, they will face Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 at the Santiago Bernabéu (the second leg will be played at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, March 17th), and on Saturday, March 14th, they will host Elche CF in Round 28 of La Liga.
