Miami aims to host Finalisima soccer final, but tennis could derail bid

TFinalissima is once again in crisis. The first match between the European and South American champions in four years is at risk of losing its original venue. Miami, one of the potential alternative locations, faces logistical hurdles in hosting the highly anticipated event.

The showdown between Argentina and Spain is scheduled for March 27 and was originally scheduled to be held in Qatar. However, due to the recent turmoil in the Middle East, there are doubts about the venue being held.

Amid heightened tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, Qatar was hit by a missile attack and the government canceled all sporting events, according to an official statement.

In this context, both Miami and London have expressed interest in hosting the match. But Miami’s bid would be complicated by scheduling conflicts that could make that impossible.

Will Miami be excluded from hosting Finalissima?

Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida appears to be the frontrunner to host the match between Spain and Argentina. But it faces major obstacles.

From March 15th to 19th, the venue will host the Miami Open Tennis Tournament, as it has for the past nine years. Match schedules will need to be changed to accommodate Finalissima.

With a capacity of 65,000 people, Hard Rock Stadium is Miami’s premier venue. By comparison, Inter Miami Stadium seats just 22,000 people, while Miami Freedom Park, scheduled to open on April 4, has a capacity of 25,000.

london has history

London, on the other hand, has a solid track record. England’s capital hosted the latest Finalissima at Wembley Stadium in 2022, with Argentina defeating Italy 3-0 to win the trophy. It was just a few months before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Although Qatar has not officially withdrawn, the current international situation has meant that Qatar’s role has become increasingly diminished. The decision currently rests between Miami and London.
