Messi reveals how he proposed to Antonella
While at FC Barcelona, Messi and Antonella’s long-standing romance, which began as children in Rosario, Argentina, took the next step towards marriage. According to the MLS superstar, it always felt inevitable.
“We had already been together for many years. We already had Thiago and Mateo, we already had two sons. And then one time we went to dinner in a hotel in Barcelona and spent the night and I proposed to her there, which was more or less already known and had to be, but it was in a more romantic style. It’s not like one day the chain suddenly broke and we said, ‘Oh, let’s get married and that’s it,'” Messi shared.
“No, no, it was more romantic, more or less, setting a date and things like that. Because yes, it was like the bond was already formalized,” he added.
The 2022 World Cup champion and Antonella Rocuzzo now have three children and remain one of the most famous couples in world football. After more than 20 years with Barcelona, they are now forging a new chapter in Miami and adjusting to life in MLS and the United States, where Messi continues to expand his global achievements both on and off the pitch.
