Sergio Ramos: between a flood of offers and an ‘unwanted’ retirement

Sergio Ramos feels like a “bull”. That’s why he wants to continue competing. He turns 40 on March 30th and feels he is fit enough to continue a successful career.

And he feels good physically…it’s not magic, it’s training. His ideal retirement destination would have been Sevilla, but the current club officials did not allow him to pursue that dream.

Therefore, Sergio is currently considering the option of retiring or accepting some of the numerous offers from Europe (partly Spain) and the Middle East (mainly Qatar and Saudi Arabia). In Spain, Sergio will never play for another team (aside from Real Madrid or Sevilla) and the problem with offers from abroad is that it would separate Sergio from his family, which is one of his priorities these days. that’s the problem

So this decision is not an easy one, but it won’t be long before it becomes clear one way or another.

Ideally it would have been Sevilla, but the club’s directors blocked that dream based on dubious arguments. It is true that the central defender is involved in a business fund (5-Eleven Capital) that has launched an LOI to buy the club, but this situation is unlikely to be resolved before June. According to those who follow Sergio closely, the timing was right for what would have been a great retirement, in part because Sergio would have made a huge contribution to Sevilla (he could have played, then retired, and been effectively bought out).

Explaining his case on Canal Sur Radio this month, club president Del Nido Carrasco said: “Sergio offered to return, but the club rejected the proposal, citing the “incompatibility” of the owner being managed by another employee at the same time. “Maybe the owner was receiving guidance from other employees of the company. I decided that it was incompatible and that is why Sergio does not play for Sevilla. There are no restrictions for us and there was no way Sergio Ramos would play for free. The decision was mine and had nothing to do with anyone working at the club, including sports officials. “And that was it.

However, the “Ramos case” continues. We will see whether he plays for another team in the league he signed for (he is a free agent) or whether it all ends with a well-deserved retirement for one of the absolute legends in the history of La Roja, Real Madrid and Sevilla.
