MLS is growing every year, and Inter Miami has continued to grow since its creation in 2018. So, after winning MLS 2025, the Florida franchise will enter the league game starting today (the last league game before the schedule aligns with the European schedule in July 2027) as the overwhelming favorites to retain the title.
It’s not easy. This is an important year for Inter, as they still have the strength of Leo Messi and Luis Suarez, but the question is how they will react to the departures of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The team underwent a major overhaul with the signing of Spaniard Sergio Reguilon. Argentinian Mura and Ayala. Michael from Brazil. Dane St. Clair was the best goalkeeper in MLS last season. Bertelame, a German player who became a naturalized Mexican citizen from Argentina, will be the third designated player allowed by MLS to each team.
What would happen if Lionel Messi was born in every country?
It’s a significant year, especially thanks to the opening of Miami Freedom Park (April 4th against Austin), the club’s new stadium located next to the city’s international airport, and will represent the before and after of the Messi-funded franchise.
Inter Miami will play five away games, including this weekend’s match against Los Angeles FC, before Freedom Park Stadium (capacity 25,000) opens. The tournament will then be suspended for the World Cup (from May 25th to July 16th). The World Cup will be held, among other things, at Hard Rock Stadium on mainland Miami.
Obviously, MLS is already preparing for the future, but it still relies heavily on Leo Messi, not to mention the league’s other new arrivals like Colombian James Rodriguez of Minnesota United. The Argentine star is in his fourth year in Florida (although 2023 was not a full year) with an impressive 77 goals in 88 games so far.
The World Cup winner was injured during pre-season but will be in Los Angeles today with an impending goal of 900 career competitive goals in mind. To date, he has scored 896 goals (for club and country) and this new milestone in his career is about to be achieved.
Leo will be heading into the World Cup year with the same team goals as previous years. He has already won the League Cup with Inter. And, strangely, the Conca Champions are the team’s new big target, according to franchise owner Jorge Mas.
ConcaChampions, the Champions League of this Concacaf region (Central, North America and the Caribbean), is the Mas brothers’ new sporting obsession. This is Inter’s third consecutive appearance, but they have never won. This is a new challenge in a year when the new Freedom Park was established. In other words…let’s aim for MLS again!
