Neymar Jr. has expressed his desire to play in another World Cup, but he is also showing a more human side. The Brazilian star is back on the pitch for Santos FC after several weeks out due to surgery on his left knee.
He came on as a substitute in the second half of the 6-0 win over Associao Esportiva Velo Clube Rio Clarense in the Paulistao Championship and assisted Gabigol in the 81st minute, but his gesture towards his daughter after the match drew attention.
Neymar excites soccer fans
Neymar has not played since December 7 last year, his last game being against Cruzeiro in the final round of the Brasileiro Championship. A few days later, on December 22, 2025, he underwent knee surgery to treat a torn medial meniscus.
Since then, the Santos player has done everything possible to return to the game and be in optimal condition to perform with the team at the World Cup.
But the 34-year-old has shown a paternal and more human side ahead of the tournament, and on his return to the pitch, Ney performed an emotional moment away from the spotlight and the pressure of the game after the game against Vero Kluve.
As the referee blew the final whistle, confirming Santos’ place in the Paulistao quarter-finals, Neymar turned to the crowd to be greeted by his daughter Mabey and sent her love. He also greeted and took pictures with young fans who had been waiting and cheering for his return.
Fans quickly made their presence known, leaving messages for Neymar such as “the only player with the most loyal fans”, “Love is in the air” and “Neymar to the world”.
Neymar is the father of four children. His eldest son is Davi Lucca, born from his relationship with Carolina Dantas. He later had Maeby and Mel with his partner Bruna Biancardi, and is also father to Helena from a brief relationship with Amanda Kimberley.
Meanwhile, for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Brazil will be placed in Group C along with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. They will make their debut against Morocco on Saturday, June 13th at New Jersey Stadium in New York.
However, manager Carlo Ancelotti has yet to announce the official squad, making Neymar’s participation in the competition one of the biggest uncertainties.
While his future remains to be decided, Neymar and Santos FC will face Gremio Novolizontino in the quarter-finals of the Campeonato Paulista on Saturday, February 21st.
