Tottenham Hotspur decided to make a decisive change on a day filled with symbolism. This Saturday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, the North London club officially announced the appointment of Igor Tudor as their new interim head coach in a bid to keep the team out of the Premier League relegation zone.

The Croatian tactician takes over following the sacking of Tomas Frank just three days ago, but his task will not be easy. He inherits a team with just 29 points, two ahead of Nottingham and five ahead of West Ham United, who currently sit in the relegation zone.

After a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United, which drew boos from the stands, the club opted to end Frank’s tenure as he was unable to replicate the success he had previously achieved with London rivals Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Meanwhile, sporting director Johan Lange justified the appointment by highlighting the new coach’s personality. “Igor brings clarity, intensity and experience to take command and influence in difficult moments. Our goal is simple: to stabilize performances, maximize the quality within the team and compete strongly in the Premier League and Champions League.”

Who is Igor Tudor? Spurs’ new ‘firefighter’ profile

Igor Tudor, 47, is a former soccer player and manager with extensive experience in Southern Europe’s top leagues. As a player, he primarily distinguished himself as a central defender for Juventus, and was a key member of the Croatian national football team that finished third at the 1998 World Cup in France.

He has been manager of nine different clubs since 2013, including major clubs such as Juventus, Lazio, Udinese, Olympique de Marseille and Galatasaray. His profile is associated with strict tactical discipline, non-negotiable physical fitness and a highly competitive personality.

However, Tudor arrives in London seeking his own salvation. His most recent spell in Italy ended abruptly when Juventus sacked him on October 27 after eight games without a win, including three consecutive defeats.
