MUNICH (AP) – France defender Dayot Upamecano has signed a new four-year contract to stay at Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga’s strongest team has finished an endless story Upamecano, 27, announced on Friday that he has signed a new contract until June 2030, ending speculation that he would be swayed by reported interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.
He had only a few months left on his existing contract.
“Upamecano is another key figure in our team and we have been able to work well together,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said on the club’s website. “Teams need anchor points and Dayo is next. The question is often not who to sign, but who to develop. Dayo has developed into a top international player here at Bayern.”
Upamecano joined from Leipzig in 2021 when Bayern paid him a release fee of approximately 43 million euros ($52.2 million at the time). He joined Leipzig from sister club Salzburg in 2017.
Bayern powerbroker Uli Hoeness recently said: Disappointment that Upamecano wasn’t committed yet He wanted to remain at the club and suggested that “his advisors will do everything possible to lure him away”.
He made 180 appearances for Bayern and 35 for France.
