Chicago Fire are determined to sign Robert Lewandowski and have further strengthened their pursuit of the Barcelona striker with a permanent contract offer in a bid to land the world star ahead of the MLS summer window.
The American club has been in contact with Lewandowski since late last year and recently presented a two-year proposal aimed at making the Polish forward the centerpiece of the franchise after his current contract with Rose expires at the end of the season.
The move reflects Chicago’s broader strategy to attract top talent and reshape its roster. SPORTS analyst Thomas Andreou said Lewandowski’s courtship included multiple meetings involving key figures in his decision-making circle.
The Fire are doing everything they can to keep Lewandowski.
His wife, Anna, visited Chicago in November to inspect residential areas, and club representatives later met in Barcelona. Further discussions have since taken place, including a recent meeting in London between Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi and Fire owner Joe Mansueto.
Chicago also emphasizes the connection between culture and sports on the field. The city is home to one of the largest Polish communities in the United States and has featured prominent Polish players in the past, a factor seen as a potential motivation for the striker’s family.
The pursuit comes after Chicago sought without success for other high-profile players, including Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah and Bernardo Silva. Signing Lewandowski would be a major step forward in the club’s efforts to raise its profile.
Coach Berhalter praises Lewandowski
Head coach Gregg Berhalter declined to comment directly on the negotiations, but praised the veteran forward’s accomplishments. “He’s a great player,” Berhalter said, referring to Lewandowski’s prolific goalscoring record in Europe’s top leagues over the past decade and a half.
While the potential transfer remains uncertain as negotiations are ongoing, Chicago’s continued campaign underlines their intention to make the Polish international the face of their next era.
