Fermin López is having a great season in every sense of the word. The Andalusian midfielder was one of the most decisive players in the Barcelona team, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists, and his talent and contribution were rewarded with a contract extension until June 2031. The deal was agreed on January 30, but was formalized on Friday at an event hosted by Joan Laporta at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Fermín López has reflected on the difficult path he took to reach Barcelona’s first team, explaining that the process helped him learn and grow. “Everything I’ve been through has prepared me for this moment. A kid from El Campillo dreamed of playing for Barça, and now I want to play here for many years,” said the visibly happy midfielder.

Being a soccer player is never easy, and he admitted that hardships have helped him grow as a player. He also admitted that he would like to take on more responsibility in the future. “Being captain is a dream. If it were to happen, I would be very happy, because I have been a Barcelona fan since I was a child and I live with and for Barcelona,” he admitted.
It has never been easy for me. Everything has always been very difficult for me. And that helped me learn and improve.
In fact, the midfielder admitted that despite his young age, he cannot rule out the possibility of spending his entire life as a Kühl. “Hopefully I can stay here for many years and finish my career here. It would be a joy and a dream,” he said. He also admitted that leaving for Linares was not easy, but it was important. “Now I’m calmer on the ball in games and more mature in my decision-making,” he said. Regarding the offer he considered in the summer, the youth player reiterated that he has no intention of leaving Barcelona.

Fermin admitted that he is very excited about this season. “We have a good team, we are a family and we are back at the Spotify Camp Nou… We have a great campaign ahead of us and we hope we can make history. Obviously the Champions League is everyone’s dream. It has been many years since we won it and last year we missed out by a narrow margin. We are working towards it and we are capable of winning it and I hope it will happen,” he said. On the other hand, he also mentioned Doro’s withdrawal. “These are decisions that people make. I don’t want to focus on that. He was a good friend, but he made that decision and we wish him well.”
