Eduardo Iturralde González, a media referee who was in charge of La Liga matches from 1995 to 2012, was extremely harsh towards Joan Laporta after he criticized the referee after Real Madrid’s victory over Rayo Vallecano.
Barcelona posts video of Lionel Messi’s first professional goal, fans rave about it
They support a club (Real Madrid) that has a TV station that goes out of its way to explain things out of place and that the referees are constantly hurting them.
“I watched Real Madrid against Rayo Vallecano and I don’t know where those nine or 10 minutes of extra time came from. I’ve seen a lot of plays where a lot of players are getting used to diving and this should be on the cards… And I’m saying this in a constructive way. Sometimes it works in our favor and I recognize the same,” commented Joan Laporta, commenting on Madrid’s 2-1 match against Rayo.
My advice to Mr. Laporta is that when he says the club is benefiting…the situation we live in is that he is paying, among other things, the vice-president of the CTA.
Laporta used the opportunity to once again criticize Real Madrid and its TV channel, saying: “They favor a club (Real Madrid) that has a TV channel that is dedicated to misplaced explanations and whose referees constantly harm them. And this is the reaction.”
After hearing Laporta’s words, Eduardo Iturralde González harshly criticized the FC Barcelona president on the program “El Larguerro”.
Iturralde Gonzalez: “When Joan Laporta talks about refereeing, the first thing he should do is apologize”
“There is no question about Madrid’s penalty against Rayo… I would like to advise Mr. Laporta that when we say he is benefiting the club, the situation we live in is that he is paying, among other things, the vice president of the CTA (Technical Committee of Referees),” the 58-year-old former referee told Manu Carreno.
Iturralde reminded Joan Laporta of the “Negreira affair”, in which he is investigating the payment of 7 million euros for reports to the vice-president of the CTA between 2001 and 2018, saying: “The situation that is happening in Spanish football and refereeing today…part of the disadvantages that have been inflicted on Spanish referees is thanks to him and the villain Enriquez Negreira.”
Cadena SER’s arbitration analyst believes that “When Joan Laporta talks about refereeing, the first thing he should do is apologize to Spanish football and especially to the referees for how he and the other presidents put us in this situation by paying the bad guy Enriquez Negreira, the vice president of the CTA, to put us in this situation.”
Coach Eduardo Iturralde González attacked Joan Laporta head-on, saying: “He must apologize to Spanish football and to refereeing.”
