LLong before Brittany Mahomes became a familiar figure on NFL sidelines, her name was carved into the East Texas record books, and now that chapter of her story is once again in the spotlight.

The former college soccer star is in the running for induction into the UT Tyler Athletics Hall of Fame, a recognition that has drawn praise from across the sports world and a proud reaction from the Mahomes family.

Brittany Mahomes, co-owner of the Kansas City Currents and married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has been officially named to the University of Texas at Tyler Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026.

This honor recognizes her outstanding collegiate career and places her among a small group of influential athletes who have shaped the program’s history.

The news quickly spread online, and one message caught my eye. Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes, shared a well-wishes post expressing his family’s pride and honoring Brittany’s journey over the years.

“Congratulations to my daughter-in-law on her Hall of Fame induction. Well deserved, Britt,” Mahomes Sr. wrote in a short but poignant note of appreciation for his accomplishments even before his public appearance.

Brittany Mahomes herself quietly acknowledged the honor, reposting the announcement on social media without fanfare. For those who know her path, the modest response felt appropriate.

A career at a university that still sets the standard

At the University of Texas at Tyler from 2013 to 2016, Brittany Mahomes had one of the most productive careers in the women’s soccer program.

She appeared in 74 games over four seasons and was near the school’s all-time leader in points, goals, assists and game-winning goals.

The 2016 senior year remains a defining moment. She set single-season records with 40 points, 18 goals, and seven games won, and tied a program record with four games with three goals.

These performances not only strengthened UT Tyler during that season, but also established a benchmark for future players to follow.

In a statement released by the university, Mahomes reflected on the significance of that period.

She said her time at Tyler played a big role in shaping her career and identity, and credited former coach Kelly Webb for bringing belief and leadership beyond the field.

“I am honored to be inducted into the UT Tyler Athletics Hall of Fame. My time at UT Tyler played a huge role in shaping my life, career, and who I am today,” Mahomes said.

“I especially want to thank Coach Webb. Her belief in me, leadership, and constant support have had an incredible impact on my journey on and off the field. UT Tyler will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Impact extending beyond the university

After college, Mahomes played professionally in Iceland for a short period of time before retiring from competitive play in 2017. But her influence on soccer only grew.

She later became a part-owner of the Kansas City Currents, driving long-term investment in the National Women’s Soccer League and helping develop the first stadium built specifically for a women’s professional soccer team.

Patrick Mahomes has spoken publicly about that influence nationally, noting how Brittany’s drive and ambition mirrors his own. He described her as someone who would push him to be great while building an independent legacy.

Alongside the 2016 UT Tyler Softball National Championship team, her induction into the Hall of Fame, scheduled for March 28, 2026, serves as a reminder that Brittany Mahomes’ story did not begin with celebrity.

It started with consistency, leadership, and excellence in Tyler, Texas, and the foundation continues to resonate years later.
