aFollowing his success in Europe, Angel Di Mara returned to Argentine club Rosario Central for the 2025 season, where he began his professional career.
Although he played with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and was briefly aligned with Lionel Messi (with whom he also played with the Argentina national team for several years) at Paris Saint-Germain, he was unbiased when it came to choosing the best player in the world.
Dimara passes Messi and CR7
The 37-year-old veteran striker played alongside Portuguese star Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabé between 2010 and 2014. Based on his work ethic, Ángel praised the current Al Nasr captain over Leo Messi in terms of professionalism, saying in his words that Argentina’s “number 10” has a divine gift.
“Chris[Ronaldo]was all about hard work and effort to be number one, but Messi became drinking buddies in the dressing room and showed he has the God-given talent to be number one,” DiMara told AS.
Angel and Leo spent several years playing games and moments together. Not all of them were good, but their best moment was undoubtedly when they broke Albiceleste’s 28-year title drought, winning the 2021 and 2024 Copa Amrica and the 2022 World Cup. After winning the last title, Di Mara decided to retire from the Argentina national team, stating that his cycle with the Argentina national team was over and that now “it was someone else’s turn”.
‘Fideo’, who has experience at Benfica, Manchester United, PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid, was asked about another young player with whom he had to share the dressing room and play against at the same time: Kylian Mbapp. The French striker was a teammate at the Parisian club and was almost the executioner in the 2022 Qatar final. For this reason, ngel did not hesitate to highlight him as “the best”.
“Kylian has been one of the best players in the world for many years, and although team titles have a big impact on individual results, he proves every day that he is one of the best players, and he is the best today,” Di Mara said, adding: “When he found his way of playing, he became a player who made a difference.”
Ahead of the new version of the World Cup, which is currently being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico and begins on June 11, Angel will be on the other side of the field, cheering like any other fan and watching his teammates defend the title they won in 2022.
The Argentina national team is in Group J with Austria, Algeria and Jordan and will make their debut against Algeria on Tuesday 16 June, before playing against Austria on Monday 22 June and against Jordan on Friday 26 June.
