TOne of the greats in American soccer, 23-year-old forward Trinity Rodman, has renewed her contract with the NWSL’s Washington Spirit until 2028.
Rodman’s new contract is worth more than $1 million per season, making her the highest-paid soccer player in the world, her agent Mike Senkowski of Upper90 Sports Group told ESPN.

I have made the Washington metropolitan area my home and the Spirit my family.
The signing of Rodman by the Spirit, who is coached by Spaniard Adrian Gonzalez, ended months of drama that had been hampered by strict salary limits and called into question the NWSL’s ability to retain star players.
The turbulent history of Trinity Rodman and her father Dennis Rodman
Trinity Rodman is the daughter of Dennis Rodman, one of the most controversial players in NBA history.
Dennis Rodman is not the father. Maybe it’s blood, but nothing else.
In an interview on the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” Trinity surprised many with her strong statement, “He’s not my father. Maybe by blood, but nothing else.”
We tried to live with him but he always organized parties every day and brought random women
The Washington Spirit soccer player said that during her childhood, her mother did everything she could to protect her two children from the former NBA star’s turbulent lifestyle. Rodman’s mother, Michelle Moyer, divorced Dennis Rodman in 2012.
In the same year, Denis stopped providing financial support to his family. “We tried to move in with him, but he was having parties every day and bringing random women home,” USWNT player Trinity confessed.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t the father you wanted, but I tried anyway, and I’ll keep trying, and I’ll never stop.”
One of Trinity’s most painful memories was when her father, Dennis Rodman, showed up at her team’s NWSL playoff game in 2021. This surprised Trinity, as she hadn’t heard from him in months.
Trinity Rodman is a generational player, but above all she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s football.
After a public disagreement on social media, Dennis Rodman said, “I’m sorry I’m not the father you wanted, but I tried anyway and I’ll keep trying and I’ll never stop.”
New rules are created in the NWSL in the wake of the Trinity Rodman Incident.
With a team-wide salary cap of just $3.5 million in 2026, it appeared the Spirit would not be able to offer Rodman a salary that matched England’s offer.
This agreement reflects our belief that elite talent deserves elite commitment.
The “Rodman Melo Opera” forced the NWSL to create a rule that allows teams to exceed the salary cap by $1 million in order to attract and retain a group of players deemed “high impact.”
Trinity Rodman on Spirit contract renewal: ‘I’m excited about the direction this club is heading’
“I have made the DMV (Washington Metropolitan Area) my home and Spirit my family, and I knew this is where I wanted to start the next chapter of my career,” Rodman said in a club statement.
“I’m proud of what we’ve built since my rookie season and excited about the direction this club is heading,” she added. “We will continue to raise the bar as we strive for titles, and I look forward to continuing to do so with my teammates and the best fans in the NWSL.”
Rodman and Spirit have been league finalists the past two seasons.
“Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s football,” said Michelle Cann, owner of the Spirit and of Women’s Super League side OL Lyons and London City Lionesses.
“This agreement reflects our belief that elite talent deserves elite commitment,” he added.
