FRanco Navarro did not shy away from the topic. Alianza Lima’s sporting director spoke on RPP’s program “Vamos al VAR” about the sexual complaint that affected Carlos Zambrano, Sergio Pair and Miguel Trauco and led to the club’s indefinite isolation.
“Sunday was a very late day of play in Colo-Colo. After three games in which we knew that the team lived up to all of our expectations, we went to the airport at 5 in the morning and everything was normal. Today (Thursday) morning, on the way to practice, this news came out and put us in a sad situation that is difficult to explain,” Navarro recalled of the events that happened on January 18.
The coach explained that the decision was a consensual one: “We met with Pablo Guede, the sporting department and the legal department. The decision was taken to isolate the players indefinitely. The investigation is ongoing, but it is unfortunate that a woman was included in the intensive squad. We said that we will not tolerate any violations of discipline this year.”
Navarro, visibly hurt, added: “It’s a soul-crushing incident. You hope for the best, you want success, but it’s a difficult situation. We have to involve the whole sports team and root out anything that doesn’t benefit us. We said at the beginning of the year that we will not tolerate any wrongdoing.”
The manager defended his role in running the team, saying: “I was brought in to make decisions and I have been making them since last year. What I am doing is making decisions in the interest of the club and aiming to achieve the goals I have set for myself.” In closing, Navarro was candid about the reason for the sanctions, saying, “What we have confirmed is that they brought them in, and it’s a violation of discipline. That’s the most important thing. I won’t go into details.”
