The reaction of the “Atlas Lions” was special. The Moroccan federation hit back with a harsh statement threatening to censure Senegal against FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF). They understand that the events following the penalty affected the “normal development of the match”.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has announced that it will take legal action against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA in connection with the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team from the final match against Morocco and the events following the referee’s penalty decision, which was judged by all experts to be correct. This seriously affected the normality of the match and the performance of the players,” reads an official statement from the FRMF.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation would also like to express its sincere gratitude to all the Moroccan fans who have remained loyal to the national team with their large attendance and exemplary support in all of the national team’s matches and tournaments. The Federation also thanks all those who contributed to the success of this continental championship,” it concluded.
