IIf there’s one thing missing from Lionel Messi’s successful career, it’s definitely playing in and winning the Copa Libertadores. The Argentine star has achieved literally everything, but the dream of his fans would be to see him in the most important South American tournament in the world. MLS teams will not be participating in this tournament, but Inter Miami is working to make an exception.
A few years ago, Mexican teams had the opportunity to compete in the Copa Libertadores, and although none of them won, there were some who had great campaigns and proved they had plenty of quality. As explained in a press conference by Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas, an MLS team may also be added in the future.

Inter Miami wants Messi to play in Copa Libertadores
Jorge Mas is excited about Inter Miami’s chances of competing in the Copa Libertadores, stating that he is in talks to make this happen and potentially see Messi play in the continental competition.
“It would be a dream. Of course, I have talked with Conmebol about participating in the Copa Libertadores. There is precedent for Mexican clubs,” said Mas about the possibility of joining Inter Miami.
With the addition of MLS and MX spots, the competition will become bigger and more attractive.
Additionally, the Inter Miami owner explained that both MLS and Liga MX deserve these positions. “I’ve said publicly that I want to play in the Copa Libertadores, but I think the MLS and Liga MX champions probably deserve to play.”

Inter Miami are targeting Messi’s place in the Copa Libertadores, but the Argentine is also being courted in the Kings League world, with former teammate Gerard Pique leaving him an invitation to the competition.
After the Kings League World Nations Cup, Gerard Pique was asked about the possibility of inviting Messi someday, and the former Barcelona player answered very clearly.
“We’ll see if there’s a possibility for him to join the Kings one day, but for me it’s obviously a dream,” explained the 2010 World Cup winner with Spain. “It’s going to be incredible to have him with us because we want the best and as I’ve always said, he’s the best in the history of this sport.”
