Messi is one of the most famous soccer players in the world, with over 511 million followers on his social networks. His level of charm is such that just mentioning one of its products can dramatically increase the market value of a company, and that’s exactly what happened recently, when the Argentine star confessed in an interview with LUZU TV that he likes to drink wine with Sprite “so that the effects appear faster”.

Coca-Cola stock rises thanks to Lionel Messi
This simple mention was enough to boost sales of soft drinks that are part of the Coca-Cola family.
According to information from Athlon Sports, Messi’s weakness against Sprite boosted sales and the stock price rose by 4.5%, which equates to growth of about $13 billion.
This is especially paradoxical since Pepsi, Coca-Cola’s great competitor, has been one of Messi’s major sponsors throughout his career.
What is Lionel Messi’s favorite drink?
But Coca-Cola isn’t the only company benefiting from Messi’s recent comments. As a result of this statement, the Argentine star’s followers took on the task of investigating which wine he usually drinks in Sprite, and found a photo of the Albiceleste captain preparing the drink with Quinta de Morgado, a soft red wine from Brazil. The photo, which can be purchased for as little as $30, is quite affordable considering Messi’s income, and was flooded with comments such as: His simplicity and humility.
In addition to the aforementioned wines, the Argentine captain usually consumes wines from his own personal line. This is a premium Syrah of European origin that costs over €60 per bottle and is only sold online. This red wine is part of a limited and exclusive edition developed in collaboration with Italian-Swiss winery MM Winemaker.
Bottles from the Messi Collection can only be purchased from the official MM Winemaker website, reinforcing their special nature. Messi collaborated with the brand in 2023 to launch several special collections, including Diamond, Titanium, Platinum and GOAT 10, which quickly sold out due to high demand for one of the world’s most popular sportsmen.
This phenomenon once again proves that Messi’s influence is enormous even outside of sports. Even without appearing in a formal advertising campaign, his mention alone was enough to generate global buzz and significant financial returns for one of the world’s most powerful brands.
