?Gianni Infantino’s appearance at Gillette Stadium may have seemed routine on the surface, but as the countdown to the 2026 World Cup accelerates, the FIFA president’s presence alongside New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft had clear significance.
With Foxborough set to play a central role in the tournament, Infantino’s visit felt less ceremonial and more like a strategic check-in to one of FIFA’s most important American locations.
Gillette Stadium is scheduled to host seven World Cup matches in 2026, including two for Scotland and the high-profile group stage match between England and Ghana.
Dressed head-to-toe in Pats merchandise, Infantino sat with Kraft, providing visible evidence of how closely FIFA leadership is tracking preparations in New England as the 48-team tournament approaches.
Mr. Kraft has already managed both the Patriots and Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution, and has quietly become one of the most influential American power brokers in world soccer.
His influence extends far beyond Foxborough to Mexico, where Kraft is now financially tied to one of the most iconic organizations in sports.
Craft’s global footprint continues to expand
Earlier this year, a group of investors affiliated with Kraft bought a $240 million stake in the company that owns Club América and Mexico City’s legendary 88,000-seat stadium, Estadio Azteca.
The venue will host five matches during the 2026 World Cup, including the opening match of the tournament. The new ownership group operates under the name Grupo Aguilas and is valued at approximately $490 million.
Televisa Chairman Emilio Azcarraga Jean, who is also Grupo Águilas’ executive president, said the partnership is a long-term plan.
“This strategic partnership puts us in a strong position for the next stage of our leadership by expanding our reach and providing even more unforgettable experiences for our fans in Mexico and abroad,” Azcarraga Jean said in a statement.
As part of the partnership, Kraft Analytics Group is expected to provide expertise in customer data, fan engagement and strategic consulting.
It’s a familiar formula for Kraft, an organization focused on innovation in analytics and fan experience in both the NFL and MLS.
Club América is the crown jewel of Mexican soccer investments. The club has established its global profile with legends such as Cuauhtemoc Blanco and Guillermo Ochoa, having won the Liga MX title 16 times and the CONCACAF Champions League trophy seven times.
Liga MX clubs are becoming increasingly attractive to American investors as the World Cup approaches, but Amrica’s reputation sets it apart.
Infantino’s stay in Foxboro also fits into a broader pattern. He has been spotted at several NFL stadiums in recent years, including AT&T Stadium and MetLife Stadium, with FIFA evaluating infrastructure, access and fan experience when choosing the final venue.

During his visit in 2023, the stadium’s scoreboard also publicly welcomed the FIFA president, underscoring the high profile of his visit.
The 2026 World Cup will begin on June 11th and end on July 19th, and will be the first tournament to feature 48 countries.
With Gillette Stadium confirmed as the venue and Kraft set to invest in two of the World Cup’s most important venues, Infantino’s appearance with the Patriots owner felt intentional.
For New England, the message was unmistakable. The World Cup isn’t just coming to Foxboro. It is actively taking shape there.
