Emiliano Marnez ended 2025 with one of the recurring episodes in his career. The Argentinian goalkeeper was forced to confront Arsenal fans after a costly mistake cost the Gunners victory.
Martenez confronts fans!
As the final whistle blew and Arsenal players celebrated, Martinez headed towards the tunnel where a large crowd of fans waited to mock the goalkeeper’s mistake.
The supporters did not hold back against the Argentine player. Ironically, he was sold to Arsenal itself, the club where he spent much of his early career, and is now at Aston Villa.
“You’re not dancing right now, are you?” I heard from the stands.
Martonez initially responded with a smile, but then turned around to respond and confront the fan. Thanks to the quick intervention of stadium security and Aston Villa staff, the situation did not escalate.

Before this match, the team was in great shape with 11 consecutive wins, but everything came crashing down in the 48th minute. During a corner kick, Marténez’s poor escape allowed the ball to be set perfectly for Gabriel Magalés, who made it 1-0 and opened the scoring.
This goal opened the floodgates. Arsenal took advantage of the confusion and suffered a crushing defeat. Martin Zubimendi (52 minutes), Leandro Trossard (69 minutes) and Gabriel Jesus (78 minutes) completed the victory under manager Mikel Arteta.
It was a statement victory for the Gunners, who overcame pressure from Manchester City and Aston Villa (second and third in the table). Martonez’s single mistake turned out to be extremely costly.
Arteta told Sky Sports: “It’s a great night. We knew we were playing against a top-level opponent, so it was a very tough game. The way we started in the second half was great. We increased our intensity and fought relentlessly.”
“We know what we want in 2026.”
