Endrik is set to become Lyon’s new player. Real Madrid’s deal with the French club is expected to be formalized soon, confirming reports that had been linking the Brazilian to the Ligue 1 club for several weeks.
Despite not being part of Xabi Alonso’s plans this season, Real Madrid have full confidence in the striker’s development and Endrik will be on loan for six months, with no option to buy. Lyon will pay the player’s salary until June 30th.

Endrick’s departure is no surprise considering he has only played 99 minutes across three games this season, most of which came against Talavera in the Copa del Rey. Xabi Alonso expects little from the Brazilian. The main purpose of this transfer is to earn playing time in order to be included in the Brazilian national team that will participate in the World Cup in the United States. Just over a year ago, that position seemed assured, but this season’s ostracism has taken it away. At least for the time being.
In reality, Endrik’s first season at Madrid was not easy either. Like Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti relied little on the Palmeiras striker, but was somewhat generous when it came to giving him playing time. Most of his minutes came in the Copa del Rey, where Endrik scored five goals in six games, more than anyone else, leading Madrid to the final. In addition, the striker scored one goal in La Liga and one in the Champions League.
However, Endrick’s progress this season has been clearly subdued, with him barely involved except for the Copa del Rey match, in which he made his only start and showed positive signs.
