Cristiano Ronaldo’s fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, is offering a new perspective on this year’s most talked about celebrity engagements.
In a new interview with Elle Spain, Rodríguez did not hesitate in his assessment, recalling the moment when Al Nasr and the Portuguese star proposed with a huge diamond ring, after almost a decade together.
Rodriguez, 31, characterized the extravagant sparkler as “the least he could offer me after waiting 10 years.”
Her remarks, delivered with a light touch, underscore both the couple’s long road to marriage and the way Rodriguez herself handles high-profile life events.
The couple’s engagement was announced on August 11, with Rodriguez posting a photo of the striking ring on Instagram with a caption that translated into English: “Yes, I do. For this and the rest of my life.”
Jewelry experts estimate that the oval diamond at the center of the piece weighs between 30 and 37 carats and is valued at millions of dollars, making it one of the most notable rings in recent celebrity news.
A moment of shock and joy
Despite the grandeur of the ring, Rodriguez admits he was surprised by the proposal itself. “To tell you the truth, when he proposed, it wasn’t on my mind at all,” she told the magazine.
Reportedly, she was so stunned by the stone’s size and shine that she was unable to take the ring out into the sunlight until the next day.
“I was so shocked that I left it in my room and didn’t open it in the sunlight until the next day.”
This anecdote offers an intimate glimpse into a moment that was first seen through the lens of Instagram likes and social media buzz in much of the world.
The ring, widely discussed for its size and price, with some industry voices even likening its style to vintage Hollywood glamour, captivated fans as much as the couple’s personal story.
Rodriguez and Ronaldo’s journey began over nine years ago.
The pair first met in Madrid in 2016, where Rodriguez was working as a retail assistant at a Gucci store.
Ronaldo, who was still playing for Real Madrid at the time, was a regular at high-end fashion boutiques. It was on one of those visits that he met Rodriguez, and they bonded so quickly that the world later called it serendipity.
The pair started dating soon after they met and made their public debut as a pair at the 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich.
Their life together has been marked by joys and hardships, including the heartbreaking death of their newborn twins in 2022, and their growing family is often celebrated as a central part of their public story.
While the ring certainly garnered headlines, Rodriguez’s recollection suggests that the moment’s significance went beyond just the jewelry itself.
